Welcome to the home page of Doug Crawford-Brown. I am focused on bringing about a sustainable world through innovative energy and environmental strategies. Whilst located in Cambridge, UK, and working in London, I am engaged in projects worldwide.

I was a Professor of Environmental Sciences and Policy, and Director of the UNC Institute for the Environment, at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill for 25 years. Spurred by a personal committment to helping address climate change, I left university life in 2008 and moved to Cambridge in England, where I now hold two positions while remaining Professor Emeritus and Director Emeritus at Carolina:

  • My employment is as Director of Strategy for Environment and Sustainability in the firm Pell Frischmann, a full-service engineering consultancy. I am engaged in projects that bring sustainability to the built environment in the UK, US, EU and elsewhere. This includes providing strategic planning for organizations and supporting the design, construction, operation and demolition processes in ways that minimize energy use and environmental impacts. I invite you to engage my services, or those of the Environment and Sustainability team, by contacting me and/or visiting our website
  • I also serve as Scientific Principal in EnviroTech, a business-for-business firm that links together innovators, investors, adopters and providers of energy and environmental technologies. My role there is to connect scientific, technological, policy and business groups so they can bring clean, green and sustainable technologies forward. To the extent this involves any aspect of the built environment, the work is carried out through contracts to our group in Pell Frischmann.

I have more than 30 years of experience in all aspects of environmental, energy and sustainability work. This includes advanced research, education and engagement, with past projects involving partners in business, industry, government, academia and NGOs. I have served on a wide array of state, national and international committees and have provided advice on risk assessment, energy policy, climate change and sustainability to hundreds of communities, environmental organizations, businesses and governments in the U.S., U.K., E.U. and Asia.
